Standards

A clear framework for professional Reformer studio practice.

IRPSA standards cover the areas that influence safe, consistent and professional studio delivery — from the client's first contact with the studio to instructor development, equipment care and ongoing quality management.

Three levels. A cumulative framework.

Level 1

Essential Standard

The professional baseline for Reformer studios.

  • Pre-exercise screening and onboarding
  • Introductory process, assessment and appropriate class placement
  • Red-flag, contraindication and referral procedures
  • Minimum instructor qualification requirements
  • Appropriate supervision and class-size considerations
  • Policies for pregnancy, osteoporosis and other relevant client considerations
  • Reformer cleaning, inspection and maintenance processes
  • Incident and near-miss reporting
  • Emergency procedures and staff responsibilities
  • Essential client and studio documentation

Level 1 answers the question: Are the essential systems in place to operate responsibly and consistently?

Level 2

Enhanced Professional Practice

For studios ready to demonstrate deeper teaching quality and operational consistency.

  • More developed instructor education and continuing professional development
  • Consistent teaching, observation and correction standards
  • Purposeful class programming and progression
  • Instructor onboarding and internal quality systems
  • More developed client pathways and communication
  • Ongoing review of studio practice and professional development

Level 2 requires Level 1.

Level 3

Advanced Studio Standard

The highest IRPSA accreditation level for studios demonstrating advanced professional capability.

  • Advanced instructor knowledge and experience
  • Capability for specialist and higher-needs populations within appropriate scope
  • Relevant expertise in areas such as older adults, pre/postnatal work and rehabilitation-informed practice
  • Broader Pilates apparatus knowledge where applicable to the studio model
  • Advanced professional development and quality-management culture

Level 3 requires Levels 1 and 2.
